ProWo at the University

It is the time of the year when the new freshmen arrive. Every year before the lectures begin, the student council WiWi of the TU Kaiserslautern organizes the ProWo so that prospective students get to know the campus. Of course, this is done by the student groups and under the influence of sufficient alcohol.

ProWo 2017 - Drinking Game
ProWo 2017 – Drinking Game

As we are always on the lookout for new talent, we will use this opportunity again this year. With our self-developed drinking game and some sticks to fit, we introduce the young talents of the university into the life as a lacrosser. The aim of the game is to drink a cup of beer from a Longpole in as short a time as possible. Do not touch or spill, this will result in point deduction. Bonus points are awarded when the drink dispenser is blind.

If you are interested in a beer or are curious about Lacrosse, you can come to us today. Missed your chance? Why don’t you just come into our training and try it out?

Small Field League in Trier

Yesterday was a great day for our Kaiserslautern Lacrosse team. With a beautiful sunny day the ladies won the first place of the second game day of our small field league with different teams from Luxembourg, Netherlands and Germany.

This was another Victory for our team and a great lesson for our rookies.

The Lumberjacks line-up

The Ladyjacks played twice against Maastricht and Saarbrücken/Trier/Luxembourg with a win in each game. This was the lead to the game day win. The Lumberjacks just had to accept a loss against Saarbrücken. The games against Trier and Luxembourg enden with a satisfying result for the team.

The best part of this game day for both teams was the introduction of the rookies to the game play. To resume this we are happy to tell the success of our rookies. Almost each of them scored at least a goal, also their defensive skills and teamplay had an improvement.

Season Opener Thriller against Münster

Münster– The K-Town Lumberjack men’s lacrosse team opened the season with a historic 9-8 victory over the Mohawks on Saturday in Münster.

It was the season opener for both clubs.

This year, the K-Town Lumberjacks started with two teams into the new season 2017/18. The A-Team is finally back in the First Division West, facing Frankfurt, Münster, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Bielefeld and Aachen.

After an undefeated season in the second division and a win over Paderborn in the relegation game, the Lumberjacks advanced to the first division.

The B-Team is competing in the newly formed Luxembourg Little League which consists of the following teams: Luxembourg Blacksmiths, Saarbrücken Lions, Legionäre Trier and Kaiserslautern Lacrosse. We are glad that we can provide the opportunity to give all the new players plenty of game time. A couple of our rookies, playing for less than one year, already made it into the A-Team.

The Luxembourg Blacksmiths got founded in 2016 and are writing history right now by joining the FIL as its 59th member and taking part in the World Championships in Israel in 2018. We wish them all the best and are excited to have some exciting gamedays against them.

Feel free to support them:

K-Town Lumberjacks vs. Münster Mohawks

================================
In their first game of their season, the Lumberjacks had to face the Mohawks from Münster which made huge improvements over the last year and joined the first division after establishing a really good and growing lacrosse program lead by their head coach: Adam Pikey Grey

After a couple of speeding tickets, stuck in traffic jams and a short warmup in the pouring rain, the team was lead by our two new elected captains: Florian Mahler and Kyle Marshall. The two playing coaches Patrick Greenwood and Daniel Miofsky made it clear that we didn’t drive all the way to make a fool of ourselves. We had to prove that we were actually first league material.

Faceoff. Lumberjacks vs Mohawks

The Lumberjacks started really strong into the first quarter. Thanks to our Faceoff Specialist and Groundball Machine, Hector Montoya #13, we were able to win all the faceoffs in the first quarter and controlled the game for the first minutes. After testing the Mohawks goalie, it was Wade “The Beast” Dailey, our new heart of the defense, who scored after a clear through the whole Mohawk tribe with a long pole laser rip top right corner after 5 minutes. Despite the rain, everyone could tell that the Lumberjacks were focused, pumped and wide awake with our Hispanic blood pumping with adrenaline. Jorge „Eli“ Brackett scored 3 nice goals after some feeds of this teammates. Münster could only put one goal on the scoreboard, and the first quarter ended 4:1.

Offensive Possession. Working the ball.

In the second quarter, the possessions got longer and both goalies had some outstanding saves. The return of longtime Lumberjack attackman, Jesse Hansen, formerly the quarterback of the Lumberjacks offense, helped boost the team’s confidence and structure in our offense. Great work on the groundballs and backing off almost a 100% of our shots kept us in the game. Münster began to play smarter on their offense and had really long possessions, trying to establish their gameplay by inverts from X. Thanks to the good 1on1 defense, they could barely capitalize out of their plays.

The Münster goalie really stepped up his game and made some amazing saves, and so, we went into the half time with a score by 5:2.

The summary of the half time was: great defense and good hustle on the field, amazing job by our Japanese goalkeeper Keiji (who’s doing an exchange and practicing with our friends from the Saarbrücken Lions right now). Let’s control the pace of the game and play it smart on offense.
After having an uplifting half time speech and becoming confident to step back on the field, the third quarter started and we can only describe it as CHAOS.

K-Town. Whats is your profession?

Coming out of the locker room in the pouring rain, the refs were announcing a delay in the game on the Lumberjacks and gave the ball to Münster. Without a warning from the refs, no one really knew what was going and the Mowhawks scored after only 15 seconds. The third quarter started super slow since there were a lot of dubious calls, discussions, illegal timeouts and without our usual fast game flow, we couldn’t find back into our game.

Münster wasn’t done for the day yet and scored three more goals, their playing coach Grey #7 (3G,2A) was trying to get his team back into the game. They played with great defensive pressure by picking us up on the midfield line and shutting down the adjacent passes. It took us quite some time to get used to this aggressive defensive approach. After calling a stick check on our coach Miofsky #21, which was legal, the Jacks finally found back into their game and we could play some lacrosse again.

Our Midfielders doing work

With a tie of 5-5 the refs blew the whistle to the last quarter of the day, it was all about getting the momentum back now. The game got really physical and intense, there were great saves by both goalkeepers and really long possessions. Three minutes into the fourth quarter, it was our defensive middie Pat Greenwood who took over the lead again for us. We were UP by 1 and you could feel the HEAT in the air. Again, it was the Mohawks coach who tied it up to 6-6. Followed by another quick goal of Greenwood #11 for the Jacks and answered by #35 for the Mohawks we were were tied for the third time of the day. The coaches made it very clear now that every possession, each groundball, every single good action in the game counts. Thanks to a great team effort and hustle by each member of the team, we actually got a lot of possessions. Our Hispanic duo was clicking again and it was Hector who took the lead for us of a feed of Eli right from the faceoff after changing the faceoff/attack position.
Again it was #7 for the Mohawks who tied it a minute later to 8-8. With 3 minutes and 40 seconds on the clock, the game got really intense and thanks to the physical Lumberjacks playing style, we won most of the groundballs and AGAIN it was Brackett #1 who scored his 4th goal of the day and the winning goal for the day after a feed of Pat #11.

BOOM GAMETIME!!!

The K-Town Lumberjacks won their first game of the season. We thank all our supporters and fans, the referees and especially the Mohawks for a fair and good game. The coaches were really happy about the performance, especially of our rookies: Marvin Druck, Felix Hennig and Oliver Griebel did a great job in their first division game.

BLW Cup 2017 in Münster

Last saturday some of our Lumberjacks traveled to play in the Bundesliga West Cup, the season opening tournament in Münster. We left Kaiserslautern at 6am and arrived in Münster at 10:30am, having the longest distance to travel of all the teams participating. Fortunately, Münster did a good job about planning and our first game started at 11:30am, so enough time to warm up. The weather was quite rainy, but who cares? We just wanted to play some lacrosse and enjoy the day. We succeeded!

In Münster our first action was to recruit a goalie, since our own could not make it. Fortunately, we almost always found one for entire games with the exception of one half of a game where we played with no subs neither a goalie. 8 players and a goalie were allowed on the field and only 7 Lumberjacks were there. So, there was plenty of game time for everyone, even our rookie who joined only a few weeks ago. He could get some impression of real game situations and great teamwork.

Thanksfully some of the other teams helped us playing our games. Thanks again to all of these awesome guys!

Season opening 2017/18

The time has come for the season kick-off!

As traditional starting, every year all the teams are invited to meet up at a clubs place. There will be a one day tournament including most Bundesliga West Teams from first and second league. This is usually a great opportunity to check, if your team is ready for the upcoming season.

This year we will all meet in Münster. Pretty far away from home, but worth it to see how the other teams are doing. Also a great opportunity to meet lots of friends again. We are very excited about this event and let you know afterwards how we liked it!

Wrapping-up the KLax Cup

As you know we had the KLax Cup last week in our lovely city. We are happy we were able to host you guys, it was lot’s of fun!

Since we’re wrapping-up this tournament we’ll also get the pictures ready for you and bring them online this weekend!

Our Ladyjacks were able to achive the 3rd place. Our guys made the tournament win! Awesome! But there is also some sad news. Another american friend is leaving us. Billy, who supported the team for a couple years is leaving us. His last tournament in europe was ours, so he had to take the trophy. Happy like a little kid!

We’ll all miss you Billy. Wish you best luck back home in the states!!!

Lacrosse: K-Town Lumberjacks sichern sich Sieg im ersten „KLax Cup“ – Ladyjacks werden Dritte – 150 Spieler aus ganz Deutschland

 VON SEBASTIAN FUNDA

Kaiserslautern.

end of league season = begin of tournament season

Hey fans of lacrosse,

As you all know the season is officially over since this week. The Lumberjacks had their last game on saturday, while the ladies had theirs two weeks ago.

We’re all happy about the ending of this season. The Ladyjacks with the Lions from Saarbrücken were able to win half of all their games. Which is a huge improvement to last season, where they set up the team. Also the Lumberjacks are happy, that they could reach the 1. Bundesliga West.

But there is no time for rest! The season is over now, yes. From now on we run over to the summer tournaments. Thus means a lot of fun, a great community to celebrate with and even more game time. So to see what’s going on, we set up a little table of the tournaments this summer. If we miss something, let us know about it.

Hope to see you soon at the tournaments.

Sticks up!!!

Relegation game won

Saturday we had our Relegation game in Witten against Paderborn Hornets Lacrosse. It was a very intense and emotional match agains a competitive team. After the first quarter we were with 1:5 up, but just one quarter later it was even again (6:6). After the half time break and some discussion about the further game play we started as one team again and in the end won with 9:12.

Thanks for challenging us in the way you did. We learned a lot from you guys!

Also a big thanks to Bochum Lacrosse who organised the location, barbecue and drinks!

Now that we’re done for this season with all of our games, we’re going to summer holiday. But we won’t stop practicing, we’re getting ready for the next season to be ready for the 1. Bundesliga West. If you want to join us, then you’re perfect right now! Visit us at our practice times:
Mondays 19:30-21:30 at the TSG
Tuesdays 18:00 – 20:00 at the Uni Sport (barbecue afterwards, bring some food)
Thursdays 19:30-21:30 at the TSG

Great Commitment

Thanks again to Jennifer Kleinschmidt for the great organisation of the development camp in may. We know it was a lot of work before and during the camp so we thought a little gift would be worth it

Relegation games

Finally we know who we are playing against at our relegation games. So here’s a short update for you!

Next saturday (10th of june) we’ll play in Witten against the Paderborn Hornets. Face off will be at 2pm.
In case we loose the first match, there will be a second game against the Marburg Saints. This one will take place at our own turf. The face off time isn’t officially announced yet, but we’ll keep you on track.

All the game details are listed here.

Wish us luck and sticks up!

Two Wins for the Team

Both, the men and women team, won their games this Saturday. The Lumberjacks played Frankfurt B at home and end with a score of 14:2. This way the lumberjacks remain undefeated that season.

The Ladyjacks together with Löwen of Saarbrücken traveled to Karlsruhe where they compete against Konstanz. Also this game could be won with a score of 7:3 for the Lionjacks.
Next Sunday the last game of the women will be in Heilbronn, again against Konstanz.

Weekend full of Lacrosse in K-Town

Two days full of lacrosse came to an end. It was fun and everybody got the chance working on their own skill with some great coaches. It was great to have so many players from different clubs (Bochum, Heidelberg, Karlsruhe, Luxemburg, Mainz, Saarbrücken, Trier, Tübingen, Wettingen, sorry if I forgot someone) and exchange some experiences. We hope everybody got home safe and that this will not be the last camp.

Thanks a lot to our coaches Maureen, Henning, Nick, Will, Sam and Nick for making this camp so awesome.

We are now ready for the next games the upcoming Saturday:

Lionjacks – Konstanz (in Karlsruhe 11am)
Lumberjacks – Frankfurt B (Homegame 12pm)

Trainingscamp in Saarbrücken
